LENR - COLD FUSION

What is LENR - low energy nuclear reaction - and cold fusion

The new E-Cat device invented by Andrea Rossi and his collaborator Sergio Focardi is drawing a lot of attention to the relatively new science that studies LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions). This is a science where the main idea is to create energy from very small nuclear reactions, and store up that energy over time in order to power other devices. Though this is thought of as a newer science because of how recently it has been reported in, in fact Rossi’s process draws much from the original cold fusion experiments of 1989.

In 1989, scientists Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons
believed they had discovered a new form of energy creation when they were studying an experiment involving heavy water electrolysis on a surface of a palladium electron. The original reason the experiment was being carried out does not matter, but during the process, hydrogen molecules fused with the palladium and seemed to emit heat.

This excited the two scientists who immediately reported their findings and garnered media attention in no time.
They were
in the spotlight for a minimal amount of time before it was discovered that they could not replicate the results of their experiment when given multiple chances. Levels of energy given off were always highly variable, and the time it took the energy to produce varied anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks in multiple experiments. Because the same results could not be replicated on a consistent basis, cold fusion as a study was completely debunked. A few scientists continued to study cold fusion outside of the mainstream, but none have succeeded in obtaining anything close to mainstream acceptance until Rossi and his E-Cat came along recently.

Though he has not received mainstream acceptance yet, and many officials still remain skeptical as to whether or not his invention really works the way he says it does, several public demonstrations consecutively have proven that no matter what its acceptance in the scientific community, it is certainly something that is going to be hard to ignore.

The E-Cat works by combining pressurized hydrogen with nickel in a process called nickel hydrogen fusion. When the hydrogen combines with the nickel and continues to exert pressure on it in this highly pressurized and encapsulated environment, the nickel becomes copper. While this reaction occurs, energy is emitted and stored away for later use.
Despite the fact that cold fusion was widely seen as a waste of research money in the late eighties and early nineties, Rossi is bringing a lot more attention to the practice, and many more scientists are trying to help advance this slowly re-emerging field. Francesco Piantelli, for example, one of Rossi’s long time collaborators, is discovering his own method of cold fusion based research and according to reports it is going so well that he is planning on founding his own company in order to continue to experiment more in the field.
Rossi himself has been doing so well financially in the field that he has been partnering with two different companies in order to help produce and market the E-Cat for eventual home use by customers. His two collaborators were the American based company Ampenergo and the Greek company Defkalion green technologies. Unfortunately there was a recent falling out with Defkalion and Rossi’s parent company has severed its connection and its contract with Defkalion. A statement was released shortly afterwards letting others know that no company secrets were shared with Dekalion that weren’t already public knowledge.

Rossi has not stated any plants to sever ties with Ampenergo so it is to be assumed that he will continue to work with them until his device has been completed and carefully began marketing. However, according to Rossi himself, 97 active E-Cats are being used internationally in people’s homes. If there is truth in this statement, this could prove to be a wonderful sign for the E-Cat which is still in its infancy, hardly having left the conception stage just a few months ago.
There is dispute among Rossi’s scientific peers as to whether the reaction that is occurring is actually a nuclear one, or whether it is purely chemical, but until something is proven one way or the other, the E-Cat still manages to get plenty of press and publicity.
